Dar es Salaam.
Embassies of Arab countries have hosted a joint Iftar event in Dar es Salaam, bringing together diplomats, government leaders and private sector stakeholders in a gathering aimed at strengthening cooperation and long standing relations between Tanzania and Arab nations.
The event, held during the holy month of Ramadan, has been described as part of broader efforts to promote social diplomacy and encourage friendly dialogue that fosters cooperation across various areas of development.
Speaking at the event, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, said Tanzania continues to value and strengthen its relations with Arab countries, noting that the partnership has produced significant achievements in areas such as trade, investment and social development.
He emphasized that the government will continue working closely with these nations, guided by the principles of historical friendship, mutual respect and shared benefits for the prosperity of both sides.
Relations between Tanzania and member states of the Arab League have continued to grow in recent years through economic cooperation, trade, investment, infrastructure development and social support initiatives. Tanzania has maintained close diplomatic ties with several Arab countries represented in the country, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Sudan and Oman.
The Cooperation has particularly focused on sectors such as energy, ports, tourism, education and strategic investment, further strengthening the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Tanzania and the Arab world.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tanzania, Yahya Okeish, said the joint Iftar gathering reflects the strong solidarity and enduring friendship between Tanzania and Arab nations.
He noted that these relations are built upon strong historical, religious and economic foundations that continue to serve as an important bridge for cooperation between the two sides.
He further added that Arab embassies will continue working closely with the government of Tanzania to strengthen diplomatic engagement and promote dialogue platforms aimed at enhancing trust, mutual understanding and strategic cooperation.
Analysts say the Iftar gathering illustrates how social diplomacy can serve as an effective tool in strengthening international relations by bringing together diverse stakeholders in a spirit of friendship and solidarity, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, which emphasizes unity, compassion and care for the community.
