East Africa Ignites Dar: Gala Shatters Records and Makes History .

The East Africa Development Swimming Gala concluded today in Dar es Salaam after kicking off yesterday, drawing widespread excitement from sports stakeholders and signaling strong momentum in the growth of swimming across the region.

The competition brought together 32 clubs from within and outside Tanzania, featuring swimmers of varying ages and skill levels, from rising talents to seasoned competitors. This broad participation elevated both the competitiveness and quality of the event, while also creating a valuable platform for exchanging experience, knowledge, and modern techniques in the sport.



The gala was organized for the first time under the coordination of Prime Sports Agency, which demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing sports development through high-level competitions.

On his remark as the chief guest on the first day of competition, The Senior Sports Officer of the National Sports Council (BMT), Adam Tunga, has commended the organizers of the youth swimming championships currently taking place at the FK Secondary School swimming pool in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking during the official opening of the competition, Tunga said the championships serve as an important platform for nurturing and discovering young talent in the sport of swimming. The event has brought together a total of 640 swimmers from various East African countries.



In addition, Tunga urged the organizers to ensure that in future competitions they provide opportunities for people with special needs to participate, in order to promote inclusivity and offer equal opportunities for all.

From the Director of Prime Sports Agency and the North- Coast swimming club, Mr: Lameck Borega, said the response from clubs and swimmers exceeded expectations, reflecting the growing popularity of swimming in the region.

> “The turnout has been far beyond what we anticipated. This clearly shows there is a strong appetite for competition and growth in swimming. Our goal is to continue creating platforms like this to nurture talent and raise the standard of the sport across our region,” said Borega.



He further noted that the competition forms part of implementing directives from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, which has been encouraging stakeholders to actively contribute to talent identification and sports development, particularly in swimming.


> “We recognize the important role of the government through the ministry, and as stakeholders, we are committed to putting these directives into action by nurturing and developing young talent,” he added.




In other page, the Chairperson of the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) perspectives, David Musyoge, has stated that the association continues to intensify efforts to promote swimming in the country with the aim of nurturing and developing young talent.

Chairperson Musyoge explained that such events provide an important opportunity to identify promising athletes who can contribute to building a strong national team to represent Tanzania in various international competitions.



He further affirmed that TSA will continue collaborating with different sports stakeholders to ensure that swimming continues to grow and expand across various regions of the country.

The two-day competition as held at the swimming pool of FK International School, located on the outskirts of the city, providing a well-organized and competitive environment for participants.



The gala officially concluded today, April 19, with the recognition and awarding of top-performing swimmers, including those who set new records in various categories, further highlighting the event’s significance.

Beyond competition, the gala also served as a platform to strengthen regional unity and inspire more youth to engage in swimming. Organizers expressed their intention to make the event an annual fixture and expand its reach to attract more participants from across Africa.



According to initial assessments, the East Africa Development Swimming Gala stands out as one of the largest swimming competitions held in recent times, both in terms of club participation and the number of athletes involved. Its success marks a promising new chapter in the journey to position swimming among the leading competitive sports in Tanzania and the wider East African region.
