Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, met with the U.S. acting Ambassador in Tanzania, His Excellency Andrew Lentz, at state house Chamwino in Dodoma.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen key areas of cooperation between Tanzania and the United States, reaffirming their joint commitment to fostering a modern partnership that benefits both nations.

Ambassador Lentz  accompanied by the Embassy’s Political and Economic Counselor, Mr. Andrew Howard  emphasized the United States’ readiness to deepen economic, political, and security cooperation with Tanzania. He underscored that the U.S. approach will focus on mutual prosperity rather than aid dependency.

The discussions centered on concluding final negotiations on a number of major strategic projects involving U.S. investors in Tanzania, including the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) project and the Tembo Nickel project, both at advanced negotiation stages ahead of formal signing. Also discussed was the Mahenge Graphite project, currently in the preparatory phase.

President Samia welcomed and endorsed the U.S. commitment, confirming that Tanzania is in the process of finalizing the remaining investment procedures.

“As a nation not aligned with any bloc, Tanzania is open and ready to cooperate with all partners who respect our sovereignty and value our vision for development,” she said. “These strategic projects are very important for our country we are committed to completing them to create jobs, attract investment, and improve the welfare of our people.”

President Samia also noted that over 400 companies from the United States are already operating in Tanzania, which demonstrates the stable investment environment and the long-term economic relationship between the two countries.

Beyond investment, their talks addressed broader cooperation areas including political harmony, regional security, economic transformation, private sector growth, collaboration in health, and opportunities for exchange of experiences between the citizens of Tanzania and the United States.

Ambassador Lentz praised President Samia for the “Tanzania Development Vision 2050” initiative and expressed the U.S. government’s willingness to support the implementation of that vision, along with the “4R” philosophy (Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding).

Both sides agreed that transparent communication, sustained cooperation, and timely implementation of pending agreements are essential foundations for unlocking the full potential of U.S.–Tanzania relations.

This meeting marks a significant step in opening a new chapter of diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnership between the two nations  one driven increasingly by the private sector, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.
